   I am excited to let you know  M .D. Family Fun group  has received  the Trans America team’s end of summer grant for $500  from Push America  and Journey of Hope Team.

Journey of Hope  wanted to thank  our group for the great welcome we gave the team while they were in Spokane. We had a great visit with  Journey of hope at Maribeau Park  during  our Family Fun Day picnic. 

  WoW!  What a wonderful surprise. We will put the money to good use. The  money will go towards  making and designing our first T shirts. Also we are having a boys Hangout Day and a Girls Spa day coming up in October and November. We will also put some money aside for some fishing  equipment for next years   Family  Fun Day on the lake.

  
    I had sent a  letter to Journey of Hope  and gave  thanks from M.D. Family  fun.  If you would like to send a personal letter let me  kn0w and I will give you an address.  We thank   Journey Of Hope   for coming to  our very first annual Family Fun Day. We had such a great time and the guy's were awesome. You can tell how passionate  these college guys  are.  The kids enjoyed the puppet show,games, potluck and just hanging out with  the J.O.H. mentors. Hopefully they will join us next yr  for our 2nd annual Family Fun Day on the lake. It will  be bigger & even  more exciting !!!

   We will be having Mexican food and  drinks at my house from 5:30- whenever.  August  29th..... 
Hope you all are enjoying  your summer.  We have two families  that  will be enjoying there summer. They are going on there Make a Wish Trips. One family  to  see Alton Brown in Nashville Tennesse and  the other  to Disney World  in Florida. We will  hear back  about there trips  at the end of the month. Cant  believe  summer  is winding down! 
  
 Support groups will start on Monday's starting in September.
We will also  do the late mornings again around 11:00 am, as school will be in session.  Hope to see you soon!   Stay healthy and Happy!!

    Our  Family Fun Day in June turned out great.  The  Journey  Of  Hope  cycling team are truely passionate about   helping people with disabilities .
What a wonderful group of guy's.  We welcome them back to visit. 
 
  We had a  great potluck style picnic, games, face painting, fish pond, 
remote control cars and helicopters, water balloons, prizes, music,  puppet show,  gunny sack & relay races and more...

  Thanks for coming to support  Journey Of Hope team, our Father's on Father's Day and M.D. Family Fun.  Also thank you to the Turner's who  arranged  the J.O.H. Team to join  up with our  M.D.  families.
Thank you to all of  our family volunteers for the potluck and our teen  helper's for helping with the games, set up and clean up.  I couldnt have done it without you all.

                              M.D. Family Fun Fundraiser 

Our YARD SALE in June went great! Thank you  for all who volunteered.  I really appreciated all of your help!! You should have received a Thank You  letter in the mail. We made $400.00 total... $75.00 cash  donations and $325.00 in sales of hot dog meals, brownies drinks and yard sale items.

Thanks to all who have donated items  also.  We received  8 truck loads. We are going to buy our group T Shirts with some of the money and also some adaptive sports equipment and  mics items for our next barbecue / fishing Fun Day. Any ideas on what you would like for the group let me know!!

From Spokane:

 

  1. Take I-90 east to Post Falls, exit 7 (Rathdrum/Spirit Lake)
  2. Go north on Hwy 41 into Rathdrum (highway curves to right as you enter the town).  Continue to first stop light (in front of Lakeland High School).
  3. Turn left (takes you over a railroad overpass).  Proceed to second stop light.
  4. Turn right.  You are now back on Hwy 41 again.
  5. Follow Hwy 41 just under 5 miles.  You will pass Twin Lakes Village Golf Course/Condominiums on your left.
  6. Watch for the Fire Station sign (a yellow diamond shape sign with a fire truck picture).
  7. Turn left on Par 3 Golf Course Road (just beyond Lightening Bar parking lot).
  8. Take an immediate right onto Twinlow Road.  Follow Twinlow Road to the Twinlow Camp parking lot.

  August  14th, 9:00-12:00 & August, 15th 9:00-1:30 
 The VBS runs all week. Monday- Friday.
 I have planned  for 2 days so far, knowing how hard it is to get our kids  out  for an  event all week. But if you would like more days let me know.
 I need to get a rough head count... The 15th will  also be the  Big Fun Day barbecue and fun games,prizes and etc.!

  M.D.FaMiLyFuN   will have  a potluck style picnic, games, face painting, fish pond with prizes, kite flying, remote control cars and helicopters, water balloons, prizes, music,  and more...
Come join the fun. 

 A team from Push America Organization will join our M.D. Family Fun group at Mirabeau Park, in the Valley, June 15th, at 1:00. 

 This  bicycling team called Journey Of Hope rides across the country raising funds and awareness for people with disabilities.

 They have friendship visits with special needs groups and organizations within the community where they are cycling. The team will put on a puppet show for us in the park.

The Journey of Hope Team will ride through Spokane on their route the day before our picnic, on the 14th. Please cheer them on if you can.

  We are having  a   team from Push America Organization  join our   M.D. Family  Fun group  in the Park.

We will have a Potluck style picnic lunch.  I know it is on  Father's Day but,  this is a great opportunity for our  M.D. kid's,  team and   families to meet and support each other.   Come join the fun!!

 April's md kids  Skating Party went great! The kids and our families  wheeled around   in their chairs & skates and had a good time. Several  of the  braver  parents actually went skating  too.  That was a sight! 

We had a B Day party for  Thomas Ell   who turned 9 yrs old.  
Pizza  & cake was tasty!  We will definitely do this again. 
MDFF families, Thank you to  who pitched in extra  for  skating to help with the costs.
Mariah,  I appreciate you letting the kids use your extra wheelchair.  That was very nice of you and it came in handy for the  kiddos as they  tired quickly..
Thanks to the teenagers  Whitney, Brynna and Trent for helping with the kid's . 
Tammy  Dunlap had  volunteered  and  had taken pictures with her  very  zoom lens cannon  camera.  We will have some pictures up on the website  from  our skating day soon.

 We also  appreciate you letting us  stay on the rink for the rest of the session.
  It worked out perfectly. Next month we are  having a kite day and mom's support group will be at tomato street. Yard sale fundraiser in June and  picnic in the park.  Need volunteers and yard sale donations.

 Pattison's North are opening one hour early  just for our MD Kids group.I received a group rate of $150.00.  If everyone can pay me  5.00 per person,  I would greatly appreciate it.  I will order pizzas and charge 1.00 per slice . (Wheelchairs)  are allowed on the rink for one hour, other skaters are allowed to skate  for the remainding hour. as Pattisons  will opens to the public at 11:00. 
The remainding hour we all can get to know each other,play arcade games and eat pizza. I know this seems to short of a time  for the wheelchair kiddos to skate but, this was the only option for this low price. Come join the fun!

  Meetings are on the last Thursday of every month  at 11:00 am  at the  Service Station.  I am no longer having  the 6:00 evening meeting. I have had several no shows.  I will try some evenings in the summer time. We will also meet at a nice restaurant on special  occasions. March meeting will be at the Northtown Mustard seed Yum!!

The winter movie matinee's have been a real hit. This is something the whole family will enjoy.

   Thank you to all of you who weathered the snow to come to the Christmas party put on by the ARC of Spokane.  Christmas is over and now on to January.

  My first  support group  went Great!  We have some passionate Moms. It felt good to  get some things off our shoulders. We all could relate in so many ways. 
We had so much to share with each other.  I am  excited to finally get the group off  and running. Check your email often for updates and etc..
  I will be gathering resources  to share with you at our  MoMs Group on various subjects.  I  am starting    library  to loan books, DVD's, CD's and games  out for free.  If you have any books that would be helpful to another Mom or a child with special needs,  I would appreciate it if you could  bring it  to add to our library.  I will have  items for the  other family members too.  Ideas  or comments for our  group are always welcomed!!
